Manuel Azevedo Soares Teixeira passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Watsonville Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Teixeira was 93 years old.
Manuel was born in Velas, Sao Jorge, Azores on March 22, 1925. Manuel was a police officer in the Civil Service in Portugal for 27 years. After retiring from the police force, he came to the United States along with his wife and three children and resided in Watsonville since 1971. He then worked mostly for Phillips 66, Driscoll Pipes Co. for about 10 years. After retiring, both Manuel and his loving now deceased wife Maria Delfina spent their retirement between the Azores and Watsonville. Manuel was a parishioner of Saint Patrick’s Church, and a member of the Irmandade da Santissima Trindade de Watsonville (I.S.T.W.)
Manuel is survived by his 3 children, Leovegildo Teixeira (Mena), Maria Elisabete Azevedo (Natalino), and Adalberto Teixeira. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to attend services. Visitation and viewing will be held on Monday, July 9 from 6-9 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Portuguese Hall, 124 Atkinson Lane, Watsonville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 10 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville. Burial will immediately follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery, 2401 East Lake Ave., Watsonville.
