WATSONVILLE — Martha Villa Gomez died on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 80. 

A native of Atoca, New Mexico, she lived in Watsonville for 68 years. Mrs. Gomez graduated from Watsonville High School in 1955 and married her husband, Herbert, in 1956. They were married 59 years before his passing in 2015. She was manager of the repair service department of AT&T for 22 years, retiring in 1990. Mrs. Gomez was a collector of many things, including perfume bottles, dolls, and Beanie Babies. She loved to travel, especially cruises, tending to her garden and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Gomez is survived by her sons, Gilbert Michael and Herbert Anthony Gomez, both of Watsonville; daughter, Catherine Ann Hazen of Hollister; brother, Jesse Villa of Modesto; sisters, Nellie Hertzog of Watsonville, Alice Miller of Cambria, and Mary V. McLaughlin of Potomac Falls, Va.; and eight grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Gomez; brother, Lazaro Villa; and sister, Benita Fregoso.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 21, 10 a.m., at Church of the Assumption. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
