Long time Watsonville resident Maurie McCoun Klimcheck passed peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2017, under the loving care of Santa Cruz hospice. Born in Livingston, CA to Mary and Harold McCoun, she spent her childhood in Watsonville and the Merced area. Maurie graduated from Moreland Notre Dame Academy class of 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank “Bill” Klimcheck. Maurie was an avid genealogist and her book, “James McCoun & Margaret Walker & Their Descendants”, resides in The Library of Congress. As a Red Cross Volunteer she received the President’s 2009 Call to Service award for her countless hours devoted to blood drives and in 2010 became a Red Cross Lifetime Achievement honoree (4000+ hours of voluntary service). She also donated many gallons of her own blood until she was no longer able. Maurie was Mensa with an IQ of 152.
She is also preceded in death by 3 of her six children: Mary Hering, Karen Klimcheck and Ruth Ockel. Her brother Dick McCoun also passed in 2017.
Maurie is survived by her sister Dolores Keswick, brother Jim McCoun (Marilyn), her son Skipper, daughters Jeane Szot (Dennis), and Connie Lyle (Randy), 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The interment of her ashes at Eagle Point National Cemetery was private.
