WATSONVILLE — Fiestas Patrias will sponsor its annual community festival, Mexican Independence Day, on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will bring music, food booths, arts and crafts and information tables to Watsonville’s downtown plaza and surrounding streets. Free, live entertainment will include performances by local mariachi, ballet folklorico, and the band, Grupo Santa Rosa. Headliners will be four popular bands from Mexico: Nano Machado, Los Cuates de Sinaloa, La Fuerza de Tijuana, and La Banda 7.
Fiestas Patrias de Watsonville is an all-volunteer community organization. The goals of Fiestas Patrias are to support local downtown businesses and to build bridges of understanding within the community.
The annual festivals of Fiestas Patrias bring together an average of 10,000 participants from throughout the Monterey Bay Area to celebrate and to learn about the heritage and culture of Mexico.
