WATSONVILLE — A total of 639 people took part in Watsonville’s Mother’s Day Run/Walk for Shelter on Sunday, while hundreds more watched from the sidelines.

Many of these were there to cheer on the mothers who were participating, all of whom received a rose when they crossed the finish line.

Organizers for the event — now in its 34th year — reported on Tuesday that it had raised nearly $70,000, and was closing in on their goal of $75,000.

Proceeds benefit Pajaro Valley Shelter Services.

Participants ranged in age from 1-82, who ran either a 1, 5 or 10K route.

Margaret Fahl from Aptos won both the 5K and the 10K women’s races. The 5K men’s overall winner was Hugo Sanchez of Watsonville, and the 10K men’s overall winner was Justin Carrancho of Watsonville.
