ROYAL OAKS — A man died after he crashed his motorcycle into a utility pole on Lewis Road Monday afternoon.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Oscar Loza, the 56-year-old man was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Lewis Road east of Vega Road at about 4:20 p.m.

For unknown reasons, he collided with a wooden utility pole and was ejected from the motorcycle, coming to rest on a driveway at 604 Lewis Road.

First responders tended to the man on scene before he was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, where he ultimately died from his injuries, according to Loza.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The man has not yet been identified.
