Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash

WATSONVILLE—A man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle plowed into a jeep SUV on Harkins Slough Road in Watsonville. 

Watsonville Police Sgt. Mike Ridgway said the man was riding a Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Harkins Slough road around 3:30pm. A man driving a Jeep SUV was attempting a left turn from Sunset Vista Drive onto Ohlone Parkway when he pulled into the path of the motorcycle, Ridgway said. 

The motorcyclist slammed into the driver’s side of the Jeep and ended up pinned beneath the vehicle. Watsonville firefighters extricated the victim and he was flown by CALSTAR air ambulance to an out-of-county trauma Center, Ridgway said. The incident Is still under investigation.

Harkins Slough Road was shut down in the area for over an hour to help with the investigation.

It is too early to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved, Ridgway said.
