Four people were taken into custody Tuesday following a high risk car stop where one teen ran from police.
Around 1 pm Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies received reports of shots fired on Eureka Canyon Road just north of Corralitos, Sheriff’s Sgt. Kelly Kent said.
A short while later deputies pulled over a silver Dodge minivan with four people aboard that they believed was tied to the incident on the 2700 block of Freedom Boulevard.
As the van pulled over, a juvenile male jumped from the vehicle and took off on foot into an apple orchard toward Calabasas Road, Kent said.
Officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Watsonville Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol fanned out along Freedom Boulevard and Calabasas Road searching for the juvenile male. Police closed down all lanes of Freedom Boulevard between Buena Vista Drive and Corralitos Road for about 90 minutes during the ordeal.
Using a K-9 officer and a drone, police eventually found the suspect on the 500 block of Calabasas Road and arrested him without incident, Kent said. Since all occupants of the van were juveniles no names were released, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Keehn said.
The incident is still under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
