A 67-year-old Salinas man died and another man was injured early Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on San Juan Road near Aromas.

California Highway Patrol officer James Burch confirmed the victim was the driver of a Chrysler minivan.

The Chrysler was traveling east on San Juan Road at 5:45am just east of Murphy Road when it collided head-on with a large white passenger van carrying a group of men who appeared to be field workers. Two of the van’s passengers were injured.

Burch said one of the vehicles appeared to have drifted over the double-yellow line, leading to the impact.

The CHP closed down San Juan Road in both directions to allow for an investigation. No information was available as to the identity of the victims.

Aromas Tri-County Fire also assisted at the scene.
