Watsonville Police Chief Jorge Zamora (left) is recognized by detective Colin Travers Friday during a farewell lunch at the Watsonville Police Department. Following 33 years of service with WPD, Zamora worked his way through a list of ranks and titles, including Chief for the past three years. More than 100 people, including city dignitaries, former chiefs and scads of retired officers, came to the Mexican barbecue lunch put on by staff. Zamora said retirement will be a “celebration” for him and his family. “It’s going to be so difficult to detach from this culture, because we have been so blessed—those of us in this culture—because there is nothing like it.”
Assistant Chief David Rodriguez now serves as interim Chief.
