Pajaro man pleads no contest to child sex charges, faces 15 years

MONTEREY COUNTY—A Pajaro man has pleaded no contest to rape of a minor under 14, lewd acts with a child under 14 and assault with the intent to commit a lewd act.

Arturo Murguia Rodriguez, 21, is facing 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 15 for several sex crimes against at least two minors, Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni announced.

According to Pacioni, a 13-year-old girl reported on May 3, 2019 that Rodriguez raped her in an industrial park off Salinas Road. While the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime, the victim reported receiving a text message from a 12-year-old classmate which stated that Rodriguez had sex with her too, Pacioni said.

When the detective from the Sheriff’s Office interviewed the second victim, she reported that Rodriguez attempted to rape another one of her friends who was 13 at the time.
