Aptos seniors Kristen Malone and Jordan Wagner were named to the Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan division First Team after leading the Mariners to second place in the league’s top division.
Malone, a four-year varsity starter, finished the year with 80 goals, 54 assists and 115 steals, while Wagner, a three-year varsity starter, added 42 goals, 53 assists and 95 steals.
Wagner also made the Sportsmanship Team.
Aptos went 10-2 in PCAL-G action, losing only to Soquel, which this fall won its eighth straight league title and advanced to the prestigious Central Coast Section Open Division championship game.
The Mariners also finished runner-up to the Knights in the PCAL-G tournament.
They completed the year with a 19-6 overall record, and advanced to the Central Coast Section Division II semifinals — the program’s first trip to a section semifinal.
Aptos’ third standout senior, Kelly Taylor, also earned recognition from the coaches of the PCAL-G, landing on the division’s second team following a 57-goal, 71-assist season.
Soquel senior Shea Salvino was named the PCAL-G’s Most Valuable Player, and teammate Kelsey Matthies earned the honor of Freshman of the Year.
Salinas’ Samantha Reich was tabbed as the PCAL-G Junior of the Year.
BOYS
Aptos senior Matthew Morse made the PCAL-G Second Team.
Aptos finished the year with a 2-10 record, but Morse, in his fourth year of varsity action, was the bright spot of an otherwise tough season.
Undefeated league champion Soquel swept the PCAL-G’s top honors.
Ian Healey was named M.V.P., Nils Niswonger earned Offensive Player of the Year and Jake Graessle walked away as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Aptos sophomore Makay Sheeper made the Sportsmanship Team.
