
A man died early Thursday morning when he was struck by a car on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of Hwy. 1 at River Street around 2:30am.
Santa Cruz Police said a vehicle was traveling northbound on Hwy. 1 when it collided with a 30-year-old man who was crossing the roadway. Though first responders administered life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim—who Santa Cruz Police said is from Santa Cruz County—is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police investigators. There is no evidence of driver impairment or negligence, and no arrests have been made.
