SANTA CRUZ—A Santa Cruz man died Thursday evening when he was struck by a car as he attempted to walk across heavily-traveled Mission Street.

Santa Cruz Police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said officers initially responded to a call regarding a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection of Mission and King streets at 6:45pm.

The vehicle collided with the 45-year-old Santa Cruz man who was using a marked crosswalk.

Emergency personnel administered life-saving measures at the scene and then rushed the victim to Dominican Hospital. The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, Blaschke said.

That portion of Mission Street doubles as the business loop of Highway 1.

No name has been released, pending next of kin notification.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call SCPD Traffic Investigations Sgt. Morey at 420-5857.
