A large altar has been set up on the 700 block of McKenzie Avenue in Watsonville where Van Michael Turner was shot and killed Aug. 4. Family and friends have placed flowers, votive candles, photos and more at the site. One family member confirmed his name and age of 23 and added that he once attended Pajaro Valley High School and excelled in football. Family members said he was skilled at drawing, had a contagious smile and a lengthy list of friends. On Saturday, a car wash will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 437 Rogers Ave., starting at 8am to help defray funeral costs. Additionally, a GoFundMe account has been established at gofund.me/308bbdc5.
