Egrets feast in Watsonville Slough during a high king tide earlier in December. The king tides will return Monday and Tuesday. King tides occur when the Earth, moon and sun are aligned at their closest points, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year. Residents are encouraged to share Watsonville photos with the California King Tides Project at california.kingtides.net. Rachel Kippen, environmental projects coordinator for the City of Watsonville, said the best places to view the king tides are at Palm State Beach, Watsonville Slough and Elkhorn Slough.
