Photo: Man hurt after car collides with tree

Emergency workers are shown at the scene of a solo-vehicle crash on Larkin Valley Road where the male driver was seriously hurt.

California Highway Patrol officer Sam Courtney said the man, who was in his early 30s, was traveling north on Larkin Valley Road around 1:20pm in a Honda Civic. For unknown reasons, he veered sharply off the pavement on the 700 block and smashed into a stand of trees. The driver ended up being trapped in the caved-in sedan down a drainage ditch. Firefighters from Cal Fire eventually freed him from the car. He was flown by CALSTAR air ambulance to an out of county trauma center. Courtney said it was too early to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved.
