Glen Fitch of Watsonville hands out free poems Thursday along with his dog, Abercrombie, in front of the main branch of the Watsonville Public Library. He was celebrating National Poetry Month, and more particularly, Poem in Your Pocket Day. He was also belatedly celebrating the April 23 birthday of William Shakespeare. Fitch, 67, said he has been a poet since his college days. Among his favorite poems are John Keats and William Robert Spencer. “I’m a 16th century poet trapped in the 21st century,” he said.
