Members of Esperanza del Valle of the Pajaro Valley are joined Tuesday by performers from Vera Cruz, Mexico at the Mello Center Tuesday as part of the Santa Cruz Symphony’s tour, The Orchestra Swings. With an auditorium packed with fourth and fifth graders from area schools, including Starlight, Ohlone, Mar Vista, Rio Del Mar, Spring Grove and Bradley, the program introduced students to the sections of the orchestra through a wide range of works. The program featured works from the Baroque period to Mexican folk music to modern jazz and pop music made famous by Elvis Presley. The show also brought members of the Cabrillo Youth Chorus to the stage and invited students to play along with certain pieces with their own recorders, musical instruments from the woodwind family. The show was capped by a performance of “Golden,” a song from the popular film, “Kpop Demon Hunters” which drew a tidal wave of applause and en masse sing-along.
Upcoming performances include Feb. 27; 9:30 and 11am and a family show March 1 at 2pm at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz.
