Watsonville High and other local football teams this week were in full gear preparing for the upcoming 2024 fall season.

The season officially begins Aug. 9 with the first day of practice, but teams were still allowed to wear helmets and shoulder pads starting Monday.

After today, teams can dress in full pads following weeks of conditioning on the field.

Sports editor Juan Reyes will return on his annual football camp bus tour through Santa Cruz County starting this week with Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high schools.   

Next week, Reyes will make pit stops in Aptos, Monte Vista Christian, Pajaro Valley, St. Francis and finally Watsonville.
