Police arrest 8, seize 6 guns in sweep

Eight people were arrested last week and six guns were taken off the street during a multi-agency operation focused on cracking down on gang violence.

More than two dozen officers from the Watsonville Police Department, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Cruz Auto Theft Reduction and Enforcement Task Force, and the California Highway Patrol participated in the operation that was coordinated by the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Tethe operation on Sept. 20.

Officers seized six guns from gang members and made eight arrests. One of the cases involved a suspect wanted on federal charges for crimes against children.

“Our department and regional law enforcement partners remain committed to tackling crime in our communities, and this operation is just one example of that,” MIchelle Pulido, spokeswoman for WPD, said.
