Police arrest suspected trash can arsonist

SANTA CRUZ—Santa Cruz Police arrested a woman early Thursday morning after she allegedly set fires in several garbage cans between Ocean and Church streets.

Nataliya Zubrilina, 34, has been charged with arson. She was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and was being held Friday without bail, jail records showed.

According to Santa Cruz Police Lt. Warren Barry, Zubrilina set five fires between 12:55 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

During the investigation, witnesses saw a female later identified as Zubrilina setting a garbage can on fire in the area of Church Street and Commerce Lane. 

An officer later identified Zubrilina, who admitted setting the fires, Barry said.
