Police arrest teen with loaded gun near Watsonville High

WATSONVILLE—Watsonville Police Department officers arrested a 15-year-old who they say was seen near Watsonville High School with a loaded handgun on Monday.

A Watsonville High campus supervisor notified the school’s resource officer who then relayed the call to nearby officers, WPD spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

The teen ran from officers, hid under a car, crawled back out, and then kept running.

“Officers were able to arrest him after he put up a fight,” Pulido said

The gun, which Pulido said was loaded, was spotted underneath the car by the campus supervisor and it was recovered by police.

The suspect is not a student at Watsonville High, Pulido said. He was taken to Juvenile Hall where he faces charges for possession of a loaded firearm, minor in possession of a firearm, minor in possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and violation of probation.
