The Pajaronian’s Prep Athletes of the Week were selected based on their performances during the week of Sept. 15-21. Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to submit nominations to sports editor Juan Reyes at jr****@*****ys.com

Boys

Evan Vessey (Jr.), Monte Vista Christian: The Mustang starting quarterback tossed four touchdowns en route to a 34-27 thrilling victory over Soledad in non-league football action Sept. 19.

Vessey completed 32-of-42 pass attempts for 315 yards, and led MVC on a late scoring drive that took a little more than six minutes off the game clock. He currently has a quarterback rating of 108.0 with a total of 982 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions in three games played this season, according to statistics on the Max Preps website.

Girls

Abigail Sanchez (So.), Watsonville: The Wildcat rising star finished with the team’s top score in a pair of PCAL Mission Division matches to help Watsonville’s girls’ golf team earn back-to-back victories, and improve to 5-0 in league play.

Sanchez shared medalist honors alongside teammate Allyson Sandoval West after they shot a 52 on the front nine holes at Spring Hills Golf Course in a win against both Alvarez and Palma on Sept. 15.

Two days later, Sanchez nearly earned medalist honors for a second consecutive match after she shot a team-best 51 at Salinas Fairways Golf Course in a win against Alisal on Sept. 17
