Boys

Abraham Martinez (Sr.), Watsonville

The Wildcatz senior ran wild for 150 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns in last week’s 27-21 win against long-time rival Santa Cruz in non-league football action Aug. 28.

Martinez put Watsonville ahead at 7-0 with a TD in the third quarter, and punched in another score from two-yards out in the final stanza. He also forced a fumble and recovered the loose ball in the second quarter.

Next up, the Wildcatz (1-0) will play at Aptos (1-0) in non-league play on Friday at 7pm. 

Girls

Lilianna Whitmeyer (So.), St. Francis

The Sharks sophomore quarterback put up a total of 520 passing yards with seven touchdowns and no turnovers, while racking up 97 rushing yards and four touchdowns in two flag football games last week. 

Whitmeyer had a field-day in a 41-0 win against Monterey in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division action on Aug. 29, tossing four touchdowns through air and running in a pair of scores.

She was also effective with three passing touchdowns, two rushing TDs and one interception in St. Francis’ 38-18 victory over Rocklin in non-league play on Aug. 28.

Next up, the Sharks (2-0) will host Salinas (1-0) in PCAL Gabilan play Wednesday at 4pm.
