Pajaro Valley High Athletics Department on Thursday announced that Kristian Flores was resigning from his position as head coach of the girls soccer program.
Flores confirmed with The Pajaronian on Thursday afternoon following the school’s notification.
“It’s a big time commitment, and my kids are getting a little older,” Flores said. “They’re starting their soccer journeys, so I wanted to be able to give them my full attention.”
Flores is currently a coach for the Santa Cruz United FC soccer club. There he can be closer to his children, 10-year-old Anahi and 6-year-old Alexander, who play for the organization.
Flores led PV to a Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division crown in 2024-25, and a pair of trips to the Central Coast Section playoffs. According to the Max Preps website, Flores accumulated a 51-31-12 overall record in five years with the program.
PV Athletic Director Joe Manfre thought Flores did an outstanding job with his time and resources he spent revitalizing the program from the ground up.
Flores recruited standout talents in Valeria Acosta, Karla Leyva, Leslie Carrisoza and Scarlet Gomez.
“We were playing some really good soccer,” Manfre said. “[Flores] got us up into the [PCAL] Gabilan Division. We kind of struggled this year a little bit, but we still competed.”
PV was promoted to the PCAL Gabilan Division — the highest tier of the four divisions within the league — after it found success in the Mission the previous campaign.
Manfre said Flores told him the plan was to stick around for up to five years, and try to accomplish each goal he had set for himself.
“It sort of ran its course,” Manfre said.
Manfre will post the vacant position on the EdJoin website and on social media platforms with hopes of filling it soon.
Prior to his arrival in 2021, Flores spent time as an assistant coach under current Watsonville girls and Cabrillo women’s soccer head coach Gladys Mondgragon.
He was also an assistant at St. Francis, and spent time as a coach for the Pajaro Valley United youth soccer organization.
Flores then ventured off to create his own legacy at PV, which turned out to be a successful one.
“It had been a while since they had consecutive winning seasons,” Flores said. “It was definitely good and it also made me a better coach, too.”
