A pair of local girls soccer players earned top honors for their valiant efforts on the pitch during the 2024-25 Pacific Coast Athletic League winter season.

Pajaro Valley senior Valeria Acosta and St. Francis freshman Alyssandra Peterson were both named the Most Valuable Player in the Mission and Santa Lucia divisions, respectively, by coaches within the league.

Acosta had a record-breaking season by setting PV’s all-time mark in career goals scored with 90, surpassing Jasmin Castillo’s previous record of 58 total goals from 2016-2020.

Acosta, who finished with 46 goals and five assists this season, along with teammates junior Scarlet Gomez, senior Leilani Vazquez and junior Rosio Acosta each earned All-PCAL Mission Division First Team honors.

Gomez, who finished with 28 assists and six goals, was also named the Mission Division’s Offensive Player of the Year. Vazquez had four assists and three goals, while Rosio Acosta finished with one goal and took command as one of PV’s top defenders.

The Grizzlies’ foursome led the program to a Mission Division title, finishing 10-0-2 in league play and with an 18-2-2 overall record.

Peterson recorded nine assists and seven goals in just her first season with St. Francis. She helped lead them to a Santa Lucia Division crown—the program’s first-ever league title—after the Sharks finished with a 7-1 record in league play, and a 10-3-1 overall record this season.

Peterson along with teammates junior Peyton Orradre and senior Olivia Chavez-Arce each earned all-league first team honors.

Orradre, who finished with a team-best 17 goals and two assists, was also named the Santa Lucia’s Offensive Player of the Year. Chavez-Arce had one goal and was a big presence on the backline as one of the Sharks’ main defenders throughout the winter campaign.
