WATSONVILLE—The Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees closed its year Wednesday by swearing in four trustees, three existing members and one of them freshly elected in November.

Olivia Flores took her seat after she and Daniel Dodge Jr. were sworn in by former Santa Cruz County Supervisor Greg Caput.

Outgoing Board President Kim De Serpa took the oath of office from Santa Cruz County Supervisor Zach Friend, and Pajaro Valley Health Care District Board Member Tony Nuñez swore in Jennifer Holm.

The Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Holm as Board President.

“I promise to treat the community fairly, and move forward with the best interest of the district at heart,” Holm said.

The Trustees then voted 6-1 to appoint Georgia Acosta as Vice President, with De Serpa dissenting.

The seat for Trustee Area 6, formerly occupied by Maria Orozco, will be filled next year. The board in January will decide whether it will appoint a new member or turn to the public for a special election.

Orozco vacated her seat when she was elected to the Watsonville City Council.

  1. let us see if Acosta shows up for her duties. if not, fire her.
and please, let us not fire our SRO officers at the high school. big mistake.
and yes, the employees need a big pay raise. pay is still crappy for just about all the employees. most of them live here and pay sales and income taxes. only some can afford to pay property taxes. that is why we need PVUSD housing for our most income-challenged PVUSD employees.
    get busy !!!
