WATSONVILLE — A brief but powerful earthquake rocked the Monterey and San Francisco bay areas early Thursday.

The United States Geological Survey listed the 2:39 a.m. quake as a magnitude 4.4.

The USGS said the quake came two miles east-southeast of Berkeley and had a depth of about 7.5 miles.

No damage or injuries have been reported.
