The Pajaro Valley Quilt Association held its annual show over the weekend with more than 300 quilts on display at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.

With the theme of “It’s Hip to Be Square,” the huge variety of homemade quilts, from machine to hand-sewn, from small to huge, from black and white to a full color spectrum spread out in three buildings.

This quilt, a memorial to Mickey Beebe, was pierced/sewn by Mickey Beebe, hand quilted by Georgia Randle and machine quilted by Mary Lundberg. (Tarmo Hannula/The Pajaronian)

The featured quilt was by Thom Aiken, known for his beaded quilts and tapestries. He has been working with beads for around 30 years. Starting with jewelry and then bead embroidery, he graduated to bead-embellished quilts.

The show included demonstrations, bead turning and a “wearables walkabout” mini fashion show as well as vendors and the Annual Art Auction.
