CENTRAL COAST — Heavy rains drenched the Central Coast Wednesday night and into Thursday. The storm, out of the Gulf of Alaska, is just a fraction of a series of storms slated to visit the region.

“We’re going to have a short dry period Friday and that will be breezy and cool,” said meteorologist Duane Dykema at the National Weather Service of Monterey. “Our next system will bring rain late Friday night. But that system should move through quickly. Sunday will be partly cloudy and dry.”

Dykema said the next wet weather system is expected to come through Tuesday with “good chances of rain.”

On Thursday on and off heavy rain kept emergency officials busy throughout the county. There were 30 reports of wires down around the county, which led emergency workers to shut down several roads. Numerous car crashes also kept workers busy, including two rollover crashes between Watsonville and Moss Landing on Highway 1.
