WATSONVILLE — The Rotary Club of Watsonville presented checks to a group of nonprofit organizations and two schools during its Wednesday meeting.
The recipients included:
• The Boy Scouts of America — $1,500
• Watsonville High Health Academy — $1,000
• The Pajaro Valley Health Trust Diabetes Health Center — $1,500
• Teen Kitchen Project — $1,500
• CASA — $1,500
• Youth N.O.W. — $1,500
• Pajaro Valley Shelter Services — $1,500
• MAIA Foundation — $1,500
• Watsonville Ivy League Project — $1,500
• New School Environmental Ed/Outdoor Education — $1,500
The Rotary Club of Watsonville also continued the presentation series, “The Pioneers of the Pàjaro Valley,” on Wednesday, with Hal Hyde presenting information about his grandfather H.A. Hyde.
Hal Hyde, a member of the Watsonville Rotary Club since 1947, helped found UC Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, the UCSC Arboretum, the Community Foundation and the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County. He described the life and times of his grandfather, H.A. Hyde.
Jess Brown, executive director of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau, provided insight as to the practices in agriculture then and now.
