On Sunday, March 11, 2018, Sally Ann Dalisay Recio passed away at Hayward Healthcare and Wellness Center in Hayward California due to natural causes. She had been struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Recio was a long-time resident of Watsonville. She was born on August 20, 1944, to Jose Antaran Dalisay of the Philippines and Beatrice Maxeen Reed of Kansas in Fresno, CA. She leaves behind her sons, Peter Dalisay Recio of Watsonville, Dioscoro R. Recio Jr. of Hayward and daughter, Lynette Dalisay Recio of Watsonville. She also has a stepdaughter, Basilica Rebustes of Banga, Aklan in the Philippines. She is also survived by her sister, Lona Monasco of Tallahassee, FL and brother, Joe Balgua of Billings, MT.  Mrs. Recio also leaves her daughter-in-law, Flor Anne Palma Recio; future son-in-law, Jayson Crisafulli and two immediate granddaughters, Merisa Ashley Recio and Corinne Palma Recio, in addition to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren in California and in the Philippines. She was predeceased by her sisters, Joann DelCarlo and Donna Dalisay.

Mrs. Recio was married to Dioscoro R. Recio, Sr. of Watsonville who preceded her in death in 2003

Known to her friends simply as “Sally,” she was very much a part of her children’s lives and upbringing. She was an active parent supporter of the American Little League out of Pinto Lake, Cub Scout Pack 510 and Boy Scout Troop 510 based at the old Freedom Firehouse. She was also very involved in Girl Scout activities. She was a life-long member of the Filipino Community Center of Watsonville. Mrs. Recio was a founding member of the Watsonville Filipino Women’s Club and a general member of the Aklan Association. She also taught Catechism classes to children in Watsonville’s Mesa Village neighborhood.

Mrs. Recio lived a colorful life and was an avid bingo player at local churches and senior centers. She had many long-time and long-lasting friendships in the area. She was quick-witted, jovial with a kind and generous spirit. The family plans to have her manuscript about her life and experiences published in the future.

Her famous potato salad was featured at the Amesti Elementary School food booth located at the rodeo arena during the annual Santa Cruz County Fair. Both fairgoers and cowboys-alike loved to pair their skirt steak sandwich and her potato salad in unison in fundraising endeavors for the school.

A viewing is scheduled on Sunday, March 18 from 5 to 9 pm with the rosary service held at 7 pm at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel located at 222 East Lake Ave, Watsonville, CA. The Mass is set to take place at 10 am on Monday, March 19th at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church at 2401 E. Lake Ave Watsonville, CA. Burial will follow the Mass at Valley Public Cemetery.
