Santa Cruz police investigating county’s 3rd homicide of 2021

SANTA CRUZ—A man died of multiple injuries early Sunday on Emeline Avenue at Highway 1.

Around 6am Santa Cruz police were called to the 700 block of Emeline Avenue just under the Highway 1 overcrossing, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department. They found a man with multiple major injuries crumpled on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene, SCPD announced.

No suspects have been located. The victim’s name has not been released and police are treating the incident as a homicide, the city’s first and county’s third of the year—the first two happened in Watsonville.

Police shut down several streets in the area and taped off a wide crime scene. They continued to comb the area past 3 pm Sunday for evidence and were hoping to locate surveillance footage from area security cameras.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call SCPD investigators at 420-5820. People can also use the anonymous Crime Tip Line at 420-5995.
