Santa Cruz police seeking ‘Winnie the Pooh Bandit’

SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect who wore a distinctive Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt while allegedly committing a burglary at the Costco store in Santa Cruz in March.

In addition, the man is wanted for grand theft and passing fraudulent checks, and is also a suspect in commercial burglaries at Costco retail stores in Mountain View, Foster City and an attempted burglary in Gilroy, SCPD spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said.

According to Blaschke, the burglary occurred at 12:12pm on March 6.

The suspect wore a unique black hooded sweatshirt with a large picture of Winnie the Pooh on the front. He is described as a white male, 45-55 years old, 5-feet, 10-inches tall with a medium to “slightly chubby” build.

He also wore a dark gray baseball cap, blue jeans with a light or white belt and black shoes.

The suspect may be associated with a small silver or gray SUV or hatchback car.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Trevor Kendall at 420-5963. Anonymous tipsters can also call 420-5995, or visit santacruzpolice.com.
