Santa Cruz woman dies in DUI crash

BOULDER CREEK—A 24-year-old Santa Cruz woman died late Thursday night in a solo-vehicle DUI crash in Boulder Creek.

California Highway Patrol officer Sam Courtney said Chyanne Pilgreen, 21, of Ben Lomond was driving a 2004 Nissan Xterra northbound on Highway 9 north of Boulder Creek near Sequoia Road with the Santa Cruz woman as a front passenger.

At one point, Pilgreen lost control of the Nissan, careened off the roadway and rolled over. The female passenger, who did not have on her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Pilgreen was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for minor injuries. There, she was arrested for felony DUI, Courtney said.

The passenger was taken to Dominican Hospital where she later died.

The victim has not been identified.

The incident is still under investigation.
