Sarah Ryan has been named the first police chief in Capitola's history

The City of Capitola announced Friday that Capt. Sarah Ryan has been named the next Police Chief.

She will be succeeding Chief Andy Dally, who is retiring Nov. 24 after 29 years with the city.

“Ryan brings two decades of dedicated service to the community to this position,” city officials said. “Throughout her career in Capitola, she has demonstrated a commitment to public service marked by compassion and professional integrity. Future Chief Ryan also makes #herstory as the first woman to serve as a Police Chief in #SantaCruzCounty and the highest-ranking female officer in Capitola’s history.”

Dally’s retirement will be celebrated at the City Council’s meeting on Nov. 21.

“If you see him around town until then, be sure to share your best wishes on his retirement and thank him for his service,” city officials said.
