St. Francis freshman Liliana Whitmeyer had a game-best 13 points along with two rebounds, three steals and one block in the Sharks’ 31-26 win over Palma in Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division girls basketball action Thursday night.

Fellow teammate sophomore Maya Calfee had nine points, five rebounds, two steals and four huge blocks for St. Francis, which improved to a 9-0 record in league play this season. 

Junior Natalie Stott chipped in five points and one steal, while freshman Keira Grio added two rebounds, one assist, one block and four points, including a pair of key free throws that sealed the game for the Sharks.

On Tuesday, Whitmeyer again had a game-best 24 points along with four rebounds, three assists and one block in St. Francis’ 54-39 victory against King City in league play Tuesday evening.

Calfee added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks, while Grio had 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and three key steals. 

Senior Maeve Flynn chipped in five points and a pair of assists for the Sharks (18-2, 9-0), who will host Seaside (3-14, 2-6) on Feb. 3 at 5:30pm. 

Scotts Valley 58, Harbor 9: Junior guard Sammy Rebbert had a game-best 14 points along with seven steals and a pair of assists in the Falcons’ win against the Pirates in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play Thursday evening.

Brooklyn Williams and senior Claire Skinner each had 13 points for Scotts Valley, while teammates Hanna Shehorn and Lilly Watson each chipped in four points.

Scotts Valley (17-2, 7-0) hosts Santa Cruz (11-9, 6-1) on Feb. 4 at 5:30pm in what will be a showdown for the league crown.

Watsonville 70, Alvarez 16: Freshman Isa Alvarez finished with a game-best 23 points in the Wildcatz’s win over the Eagles in PCAL Gabilan Division play Thursday night.

Fellow teammate senior Fernanda Lazo had 15 points, while senior Hailey Brooks added 11 for Watsonville (16-4, 6-2), which hosts Salinas (12-7, 6-1)in a critical matchup for first place in the division on Feb. 3 at 7pm.

At Hollister 68, Watsonville 64 (OT): Stephanie Martinez finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Haybalers in PCAL Gabilan Division action Tuesday night.

Fellow teammate Fernanda Lazo recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Itzury Vazquez added nine points, including three 3-pointers for Watsonville.

Boys basketball

At Rancho San Juan 68, Monte Vista Christian 50: Nico Downie scored a team-best 12 points in the Mustangs’ loss to the Trailblazers in PCAL Mission Division play Wednesday.

Fellow teammate Braden Dobler added 11 points, while Gavin Beckmen finished with nine. 

Andrew Hale had a game-best 21 points for Rancho San Juan.

MVC (8-10, 2-7) hosts Watsonville (12-3, 8-1) on Friday at 7pm.

Pajaro Valley 44, Ceiba 42: Anthony Aguirre had a team-best 20 points to help lift the Grizzlies past the Spartans in PCAL Santa Lucia Division action Wednesday night. 

Fellow teammate Carlos Escobar added 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Jayden Avestraz contributed four points for Pajaro Valley, which improved to 6-1 in league play this season. 

Anthony Toriz had a huge night for the Spartans, finishing with a game-best 36 points along with 11 steals, six rebounds and one block. Fellow teammate Marcos Arellano added four points, six assists and three rebounds for Ceiba (0-8, 0-6), which plays at Kirby (3-11, 2-5) on Friday at 7pm.

Pajaro Valley (7-8, 6-1) hosts York (8-4, 6-0), which handed the Grizzlies their lone loss in league play this season, on Friday at 7pm.

At Pajaro Valley 67, Kirby 42: Carlos Escobar scored a game-best 21 points, including four 3-pointers in the Grizzlies’ win over the Griffins in PCAL Santa Lucia play Monday evening.

Fellow teammate Alexis Michi added 12 points, while Anthony Aguirre finished with 10 points. Jayden Avestraz contributed nine points for Pajaro Valley.

At St. Francis 64, North Salinas 39: Senior Nash Horton “messed around” and had a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals in the Sharks’ win over the Vikings in PCAL Cypress Division play Thursday night.

Fellow teammate Mario Zermiano was right behind him with 20 points along with four rebounds and a pair of steals. Robert Gomez Jr. added 17 points and two steals, while Jacob Jimenez contributed two points, 10 rebounds and two steals for the Sharks. 

St. Francis (17-3, 8-0) has a chance to inch itself closer to a league title with a win at Soledad (11-9, 7-1) on Feb. 3 at 7pm.

Boys soccer

Palma 3, Watsonville 1: Junior Damien Amador had one goal in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Chieftains in PCAL Mission Division action Wednesday afternoon. Watsonville (5-4-6, 4-2-2) hosts Salinas (7-6-4, 2-5-1) at Cabrillo College on Friday at 5:45pm.  

Girls soccer

At Aptos 1, Scotts Valley 1: Senior Anahi Macias scored a goal midway through the second half to help the Mariners secure a draw against the Falcons in SCCAL action Thursday night.

Scotts Valley took the lead in the first half when senior Dillon Fiorita scored on a penalty kick. Aptos goalkeeper Evelyn Pini tallied seven saves before she left the match in the second half due to an injury. 

Goalkeeper Tayanna Bonilla, who stepped in for Pini, made one save for the Mariners (10-2-1, 5-0-1), who will host Woodside (6-2-4, 2-0-3) in non-league play Saturday at noon.

St. Francis 6, Cindy Avitia 0: Junior Peyton Orradre recorded a hat trick with three goals in the Sharks’ win over the Jaguars in non-league play Wednesday afternoon.

Fellow teammate senior Miriam Abonce added a pair of goals, while freshman Alyssandra Peterson had one goal and three assists. 

Senior Faith Vokos, junior Giselle Meschi and freshman Aubrey Nualart each were credited with an assist. Junior goalkeeper Julie Lopez had three saves for St. Francis (6-1-1, 4-0), which hosts Ceiba (0-5, 0-4) on Friday at 3:30pm.
