SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is increasing patrol in two places in Santa Cruz, in response to a recent increase in issues such as drug use and vehicle burglaries, SCSO Sgt. Chris Clark said Monday.

A deputy will be assigned to patrol the area around the sprawling Emeline Health Complex, and one at the Santa Cruz County Government Center at 701 Ocean St., Clark said.

The government center abuts San Lorenzo Park, where homeless people often camp along the wooded river.

Clark said the assignments will be “at least temporary.”

“The deputies will focus on protecting county property and increasing public safety,” he said.
