MONTEREY COUNTY—The Monterey County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of a repeat telephone scam.

Scammers are making phone calls and identifying themselves as members of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. They are using actual names and ranks of deputies, sergeants and commanders and soliciting money from victims due to outstanding warrants.

“The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office will not call and demand or request any money for any reason,” the department said. “If you get such a call it is a scam so do not send any money to them.”
