It has been more than two decades since beloved restaurateur Linda Hopper purchased the Silver Spur restaurant in Soquel and turned it into a cornerstone of breakfast and lunchtime fare for both locals and out-of-towners.
The restaurant is still going strong, although it will likely move within the next three years.
Now, South County residents who regularly made the trip to enjoy Silver Spur’s cuisine can take heart.
Current owners Juan Valencia and his son Danny Govea have now opened a new location in Watsonville. Silver Spur II has been jumping since opening the doors on March 4.
“We had a lot of people come in here, a lot of them were very happy, and a lot of them were familiar faces,” Govea said. “Many customers from Watsonville that go to the Soquel location.”

The new location is at 1040 East Lake Ave. in the East Lake Village Shopping Center, in the building that once housed Carmona’s BBQ Deli.
It has been entirely redecorated, and has room to seat roughly 100.
“We just hope we make a positive impact in the Watsonville community,” Govea said.
Clark Codiga, who manages the plaza, has seen it transform to a destination location that boasts Fruition Brewing, Sushi-Qu, Staff of Life and Ace Hardware.
The new addition has brought a long-awaited breakfast option to that part of Watsonville, he said.
“This is what Watsonville’s been looking for on that side of town,” he said. “They’re perfect. They’re down-home, they’ve got great food.”
Sandwiched between Ace Hardware and Staff of Life, Silver Spur is open from 6am–2pm every day.
