SOQUEL — A Soquel man was arrested Saturday afternoon after police found an unregistered loaded gun and large capacity magazine at his home.

According to Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team Commander George Rivera, officers from the Anti-Crime Team, with assistance from the Auto Theft Task Force and a K-9 unit from the California Highway Patrol, served a search warrant at the residence of Said Paredes-Cazares, 19, on the 2800 block of South Rodeo Gulch Road in Soquel at 1 p.m. Paredes-Cazares is a known criminal street gang participant, according to Rivera.

There, officers reportedly found an unregistered loaded 9mm semi-auto firearm along with an illegal large capacity magazine under Paredes-Cazares’ mattress. Officers also saw clothing at the residence, indicators of Paredes-Cazares’ association to a Sureno gang in Santa Cruz, Rivera said.

Paredes-Cazares’ was later located at his place of employment and taken into custody. He was charged with being in possession of a firearm as a gang member, participating in a criminal street gang and receiving a large capacity magazine.

Anyone with information about this case or other gang-related case is asked to call 454-2320.
