Girls Basketball: Chris Grieves takes over talented Aptos team
Grieves spent the last three seasons with the school’s boys junior varsity team, and is well acquainted with the talent-rich squad he will inherit for the upcoming 2018-19 winter season. His junior varsity team often scrimmaged with the girls varsity team over the years, and his family is ingrained in the Aptos youth basketball scene.
R-P Female Student-Athlete of the Year, 2017-18: Zlatunich ran to greatness in final year
Over the last four school years, Zlatunich kept the Mariners’ cross country team on top of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and Central Coast Section, while also bringing it back to the top of the mountain at the state level. And on the track, she helped Aptos regain control of the SCCAL and followed in the footsteps of the team’s former stars at CCS.

SCCAL Baseball: 4 Sharks, a Mariner earn first team honors
Catcher Derric Estrada-Haro, pitchers Chase Watkins and C.J. Gomez and outfielder Josiah Granados-Diaz all earned a spot on the All-SCCAL First Team after helping the Sharks to a second-place finish in the league and a runner-up finish in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.
SCCAL Softball: Sharks' Velasco named top pitcher
After playing in the outfield last season, Velasco made the move to pitcher this spring. She got off to a tough start while recovering from gallbladder surgery, but rounded into form down the stretch and guided the Sharks through an impressive four-game win streak to close out the season.
