Sports Year in Review, 2017: Local athletes brought home the gold
In terms of championships, the year 2017 was a special one for the teams from the Pajaro Valley. Whether it was individuals capturing titles, teams breaking droughts or freshmen setting the section and state ablaze, several local athletes were a cut above the rest.
HS Baseball: Watsonville fires coach Leroy Dozal
Watsonville principal Elaine Legorreta wrote in an email that the program is going in a “direction consistent with our vision for the coaching staff” and that assistant coaches James Carranco and Max Gonzales would take over for the remainder of the season. The Wildcatz also added Watsonville alumnus Daniel Hernandez to the coaching staff as an assistant.
PONY Baseball: Franich Park hosting 10 teams from Bay Area for regional tournament
