JC Football: Cabrillo looks to continue hot start against Hartnell

Fresh off a dominant 23-6 win over Los Medanos College on Sept. 15, Cabrillo (2-0) will host Hartnell (3-0) at Carl Conelly Stadium in a game that will not only serve as the Seahawks’ home opener but their American-Golden Coast Conference opener, too.

Williams, who missed time in Cabrillo’s previous three games because of injury, completed 12-of-20 passes for 279 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 62-17 non-conference win over Redwoods College on Oct. 6.

St. Francis senior Gabi Gutierrez saw her final tennis season come to an end in the semifinal round of the Pacific Coast Athletic League Championships on Tuesday at Sherwood Park in Salinas.

CCS Sports: Section officially moves weekend’s action south

Because of poor air quality in the Bay Area stemming from the ongoing Camp Fire just east of Chico, all of Friday’s football games will take place on Saturday at five sites in the southern portion of the CCS. The CCS Cross Country Championships, too, were pushed back a day and moved to a different location. The section’s top runners will meet at Toro Park in Salinas on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Weekly Roundup, 11/21: Warriors’ Morris named G League Player of the Week

Morris, a high-scoring guard, was named the G League’s Player of the Week after averaging 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists over the Warriors’ three wins from Nov. 12-18. He shot 46.3 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc during the trio of victories.

Aptos has made a name for itself in Santa Cruz County and the CCS over the last eight seasons — winning six league titles and four section crowns in that time — and the Mariners will have another chance to bring a little more recognition to the juggernaut program from a pint-sized collection of towns with a population of just over 24,000.
