St. Francis High sophomore Maya Calfee and freshman Liliana Whitmeyer accounted for nearly 90 percent of the 1,030 points the girls’ flag football scored during the 2024 campaign.

The dynamic duo were also a force to be reckoned with on defense, helping lead the Sharks to a Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division crown following a perfect 18-0 record in league play this season. Both players were recognized for their efforts on the field during the annual end-of-the-season coaches meeting.

Calfee was awarded the Mission Division’s Most Valuable Player, while Whitmeyer took home Defensive Player of the Year honors. Palma senior Allison Guerra earned Offensive Player of the Year honors.

“I could not be more proud for [Calfee and Whitmeyer],” St. Francis coach Frank Galvan said in a text message.

Galvan said Calfee being named MVP is a well deserved award to an incredibly smart, intelligent young player who is in just her second year playing the sport.

“Maya earned it during practice, always working hard to be the best on the field,” Galvan said.

Galvan said acknowledging Whitmeyer—who is also the starting quarterback—as the Mission Division’s top defensive players speaks volumes of how superb of an athlete she is in just her first season with the program.

King City sophomore Katia Slama was named the Gabilan Division’s Most Valuable Player. Hollister senior Jasayla Mariscal was awarded Offensive Player of the Year, while Salinas sophomore Taylor Ramirez earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
