This week’s edition of the Pajaronian Sports Ticker highlights local prep athletes for their performances during the week of May 6-12.  

Preps of the Week

Boys: St. Francis High senior Trey Silva had one double and four RBIs for the Sharks baseball team in an 11-1 win over Monterey High in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division action May 8. Prior to that, he had five strikeouts and allowed one earned run in four innings for the Sharks in a 6-3 win over Palma High league action May 6. Silva also batted 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. 

Girls: Monte Vista Christian junior Kayla Fullalove-Silveira batted 4-for-7, including two home runs, three walks and six RBIs in three games for the Mustangs softball team. She hit a monstrous grand slam and had two walks in a 14-0 victory against Pajaro Valley High in non-league play May 6. She followed up with a two-run home run and one walk in a 9-5 non-league loss to Presentation High on May 9. Fullalove-Silveira batted a .653 average, five home runs and 43 RBIs in 26 games played this season.

Rising Stars 

  • Aptos High’s Emma Burgueno had five hits, including one triple and one double to go along with six RBIs and two runs scored in two games for the Mariners softball team. She batted 2-for-4 with one double and four RBIs in a 12-1 win over Harbor High in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action May 7. 
  • St. Francis High junior Nash Horton had a pair of hits, including one double, three runs scored, one RBI and three stolen bases for the Sharks in a 9-8 win against Soledad in non-league action May 11. Senior infielder Micah Cervantes also had two hits to go along with one RBI and one run scored for the Sharks.
  • St. Francis High senior Pedro Ibarra had three hits, including one double with one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base for the Sharks in a 6-3 win over Palma High in PCAL Gabilan Division baseball action May 6. Micah Cervantes had two strikeouts in two innings, and two RBIs and one run scored for the Sharks.
  • St. Francis High senior Adrian Leon had nine strikeouts in five innings for the Sharks in an 11-1 victory over Monterey in the teams’ PCAL Gabilan Division baseball finale May 8. Javier Fonseca had one double, four RBIs and scored two runs. 
  • Watsonville High senior Julia Maldonado had two doubles, seven RBIs and scored three runs for the Wildcatz softball team in a 15-1 crushing win over Gonzales High in PCAL Mission Division play May 8.   

Games to Watch       

  1. St. Francis vs. The King’s Academy, baseball, Saturday at 3pm: The No. 2 seed Sharks (22-4)—runner-up in the PCAL Gabilan Division—will host the No. 7 Knights in the Central Coast Section Division II quarterfinals.
  2. Aptos vs. Hollister, baseball, Saturday at 1pm: SCCAL champion and top-seeded Mariners (12-11-1) will host the No. 8 Haybalers (12-15) in the CCS D-III quarterfinals.     
  3. CCS Finals, track and field, Saturday at 3pm: Several local athletes will compete in the CCS finals at Gilroy High School, and a chance to advance into the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Fresno.
