WATSONVILLE — A man was stabbed at a car wash on Freedom Boulevard and Blanca Lane before 9 a.m. Monday morning in a failed carjacking attempt.

The suspect allegedly fled on foot armed with a kitchen knife. He reportedly returned to his apartment on Terry Loop off of Clifford Avenue where he went upstairs in the two-story apartment and set a pile of papers on fire.

Shortly after, a man matching the suspect’s description had been seen behind the Apple Cafe on the 500 block of Auto Center Drive.

Four officers searched a wooded area and failed to locate the suspect.

About 9:45 a.m., police surrounded 132 Terry Loop with guns drawn. Police have shut down a portion of Terry Loop for safety reasons.

About a dozen officers are on scene, making continuous announcements over a loud speaker system for anyone inside the residence to exit peacefully.

Watsonville Fire is remaining on scene.

As of 10:45 a.m. police maintained a perimeter around the home, which is nestled in a string of several apartments that run the length of Terry Loop.

Police have contacted the mother of the suspect and his sister and they appear to be working on a plan to clear the house, but as of 10:45 a.m. no resolution had been reached.
