WATSONVILLE — Workers are engaged in construction projects at more than a dozen schools throughout Pajaro Valley Unified School District, all funded by Measure L.
Voters approved the $150 million bond in 2012 to fund numerous badly needed improvements, repairs and upgrades.
The measure added about $38 per $100,000 of assessed value for homeowners in PVUSD.
At Cesar Chavez Middle School, workers are installing and upgrading heating, ventilation and communications systems in every classroom, office and building.
They will also fix the school’s field rendered unusable by a mudslide. That project will expand the exercise and play area.
“As we work on transforming our educational systems, PVUSD Board of Trustees and staff recognize the importance of continuing to create effective learning environments that include upgrading and modernizing our schools,” said Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez. “Students and staff deserve to learn, teach and work in safe and welcoming schools.”
Perhaps most notably, Measure L provides funding for the long-awaited sports field at Pajaro Valley High School. PVUSD officials this week received bids from four contractors hoping to complete the project. The district’s Board of Trustees will likely make a decision later this month.
