WATSONVILLE — A man suspected of breaking into his family’s home and stealing a large amount of cash was arrested after a standoff Tuesday morning.
According to Watsonville Police, shortly before 7 a.m., officers responded to a report of a residential burglary on Rodriguez Street and identified the suspect as Everardo Sanchez, 36.
About 30 minutes later, an officer spotted Sanchez driving in the area of Freedom Boulevard. WPD officers have had several recent encounters with Sanchez, noting that he can be “aggressive at times,” according to police.
The officer stopped Sanchez but he refused to come out of his truck, police said. The suspect’s truck had blacked-out windows and officers could not see inside.
For about 45 minutes, officers attempted to order Sanchez out of his truck but he refused. Police shut down Freedom Boulevard at Laurel Street during the ordeal.
With the help of a relative, Sanchez walked out and surrendered to officers.
Sanchez was arrested and later booked into county jail for felony burglary and resisting arrest.
Officers recovered some of the stolen money at the scene.
